Delta Flight Attendants Gain Full Support from AFA-CWA in Push for Representation with the Flight Attendant Union

ATLANTA (November 1, 2019) — Today, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) announced that the union is putting its full resources behind efforts of Flight Attendants at Delta Air Lines working to organize a union with AFA.

“We have heard from thousands of Flight Attendants at Delta Air Lines asking for AFA’s help in gaining union representation,” said Sara Nelson, AFA International President. “Today, we’re excited to launch that campaign with 25,000 Delta Flight Attendants to gain a voice, respect and fairness on the job.”

Delta is the only U.S.-based mainline carrier where Flight Attendants are not represented by a union. Delta has produced nearly double the profits of other U.S. airlines in recent years, but an MIT study for 2018 Flight Attendant total compensation shows that wages, benefits, and profit sharing on average lags United Airlines Flight Attendants by over $14,000 a year.

“Delta Flight Attendants are the heart of the airline and key to its industry-leading success. They deserve a union contract that leads the industry too,” said Nelson. “That starts with building this campaign together.”

“Flight Attendants have more public contact than almost any other job and the means to set a tone of solidarity as we connect people, communities, and cultures around the world,” Nelson continued. “This campaign is more than a union drive; it’s a means to promote the reality that we’re in this together and to make flying better for passengers and crew alike. We invite the public to join us in support of Delta Flight Attendants as they work to achieve professional standing as union Flight Attendants with the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA.”

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA the flight attendant union representing 50,000 flight attendants at 20 airlines.

Delta Air Lines, Inc. is a U.S. legacy airline headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The airline operates over 5,000 flights daily and serves more than 300 destinations. Delta has 17 Flight Attendant bases and focus cities including Atlanta, Boston, Cincinnati, Chicago, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale/Miami, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New York, Orlando, Portland, Raleigh-Durham, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, and Tampa.
